Born Christopher Antonio Elliott, FriiStyle Gahspol aka “Frii”, has created quite a niche for himself as a speaker, spoken word poet, and Christian HipHop artist. A native of New Haven, Connecticut, Frii is a talented lyricist who got his start performing spoken word at the world famous Apollo Theater, as well as the historic Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York. Combining his love for spoken word and music, Frii would later record music with Grammy and Multi-Platinum award winner Edwin Ramos Jr.
His music and poetry have gained critical appeal, and he has since been called upon to grace the Apollo Theater stage in 2013, 2015 and 2017, a slew of nationally acclaimed music festivals and award ceremonies throughout the USA. Hot off his first ever performance overseas in 2018 at the GXMM Awards UK, 2019 would solidify FriiStyle Gahspol’s leap from national to international artist, being added to the special guest roster of UK’s KISH band’s Wake Up Warrior Tour stops in Switzerland and France.
Although born in Connecticut, FriiStyle Gahspol was raised between there and Virginia. He speaks with a northern accent, but at times you can hear that southern swag come out in his music. Frii’s music seeks to inspire people to be the best version of themselves as possible. Hip-hop and spoken word are just some of the avenues he tries to accomplish that. His music and poetry speaks of God, and the demons he faces in everyday life, but also teaching mankind that we are stronger than we think. He had always known God would use his life to reach the world in a unique way.
He loves family and loves laughing. His favorite place to pray is in his car, where he gets to yell as loud as he wants without bothering anybody else. It gets pretty loud and intense at times in that car. Strengthened by his faith in God, and supported by his faithful wife and children, he lives by this declaration: “I am a monolith, I will not be broken. I am a tall tree, I will not be shaken. I am love. I am peace. I am joy. I know exactly who I am.”
“M.G.S.- Remix” gets a total production and lyrical makeover. It is the latest single released by the international hiphop and spoken word artist FriiStyle Gahspol aka “Frii”, in January 2019. It follows the recording of a previously unreleased version titled “Machine Gun Sermon” back in 2017. Frii states that the tempo of the original production did not allow him to spew the lyrics as fast as he wanted to, and “…it just didn’t feel right”.
The need for a new and faster track brought FriiStyle Gahspol back to his long time friends over at Track Major Productions. Ro Miller and Johnny Vargas, producer and engineer on M.G.S.-Remix respectively, have known Frii for years, and were more than happy to collaborate on the project. What happened next was nothing short of epic.
Track Major productions put together a fast pace masterpiece, allowing Frii to spit the 100 bar verse just as he intended. Drums, strings, and bass dress the remix perfectly. Just imagine, hip hop meets spartan ‘300’, that’s what you’re listening to.
FriiStyle Gahspol talks about some of the challenges with recording such a rapid 100 bar track. He recalls having to place small pieces of tissue inside his cheek just to catch the saliva build up. Recording such a fast and lengthy verse, left no gaps for the ‘punch-ins’ many other rappers are accustomed to in a studio session.
M.G.S (Remix) was released January 12th 2019
